Cliff Helfer

Cliff Helfer was born and raised in the Chicagoland area.  He holds a BS Degree in Finance from DePaul University and a Master in Business Taxation from the University of Southern California.  He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant.  He has supported serial entrepreneurs with tax advice, tax planning, and retirement advice.

Cliff has been in the accounting field for over 20 years, starting as a bookkeeper in college and working for several serial entrepreneurs as a controller.  He has been in charge of accounting for two different Inc 5,000 businesses from their inception, helping them grow into multi-million dollar businesses.  He is knowledgeable about running payrolls across multiple states and countries.  He has assisted with sales and acquisitions of multiple companies and worked as a top executive for financial services and an SEC-regulated RIA firm.  He is also experienced in representing tax clients with their issues before the IRS, volunteering for the local public defender, and representing high-net-worth individuals in audits and other tax issues. Cliff is always happy to help people navigate the complex US tax system.

Cliff and his wife Mia live in Chicagoland with their two dogs.  He has been active in the local VITA program running a tax site on the southwest side of Chicago for over ten years. His wife is an academic who immigrated to the United States from China, causing him to experience international tax issues firsthand.
